Bethan Ester (she/they) is a self taught visual artist whose watercolour painting embodies her relational art practice.

Bethan explores relationality through her tarot practice, spirit artworks and handpoke tattoo process.

Bethan was born on Wurrundjeri Country and now lives in Berlin. They studied at the University of Melbourne and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Indigenous studies. Bethan approached her time studying with a desire to learn about the mutliple histories and stories of Wurundjeri Country, Australia. Now, their learning is based in international solidarity with Indigenous peoples strengths, and struggles, globally. Bethan continues to learn about ways we can connect to the Land, Animals, Spirit and the systems that shape our relationship to placemaking through her creative practices.

Bethan has come to know a philosophy and way of seeing the world through her studies: one where our world is animate, living, breathing, inherently relational, but also deeply political. This philosophy drives their art practice. Her artwork is both political and personal. It holds messages of love, tells stories that embrace different viewpoints and values caring to and with others and the environment. Their watercolour paintings are uniquely dynamic. She layers colour and plays with texture to create works that dance and capture the intricacies of each story she tells.
